As seen in the spy photo below, the F33 4 Series Convertible retains the three-piece metal folding roof top. Also clearly visible are the long doors and the signal indicators in the exterior mirrors.
Technically, the new 4-series, despite its new nomenclature, will closely follow the F30 BMW 3 Series in terms to motoring options and packages. Just like in the 3 Series Sedan and Wagon, the 4 Series family will make use of four-cylinder engine, in both petrol and diesel variants. Customers looking for more power will have the option to choose 3.0 liter turbocharged engines. BMW of North America has recently announced the return of a four-cylinder diesel to the U.S. market. The company is already selling a four-cylinder petrol unit.
The customers will also have an option between an xDrive all-wheel drive system or the classic rear-wheel drive setup. The engines will be paired to a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters on the steering wheel. The sporty dual-clutch gearbox will be saved for the F82 M4 Coupe and F83 M4 Convertible.
The sliding roof offers limited boot space therefore we believe there won’t be an ActiveHybrid 4 Convertible. The ActiveHybrid platform is currently offered in the 3 Series Sedan.
In addition to 4 Coupe and Convertible, a four-door 4 Gran Coupe is rumored to be in the works.
